Mercedes-Benz has issued a safety recall on 103,400 vehicles equipped with airbags that could cause substantial injury or death in the event of an accident. The vehicles join a growing list of recalled automobiles that have airbags manufactured by the Japanese company, Takata.
The airbags can inflate with such force that the canisters in which they are housed is blown apart, sending metal shards flying at drivers and passengers. Multiple deaths and injuries have been reported due to the defective airbags, which has led to the largest recall in American history. Unfortunately for Louisiana consumers, this risk is increased if the vehicles are operated in warm and humid environments.
